Ingrédients
  

For the filling

  • 2 cups apples, peeled and sliced Granny Smith preferred, but can mix with Fuji or Honeycrisp.
  • 1 cup sugar Granulated or brown sugar can be used.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Can add a pinch of nutmeg or allspice.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Brightens the apple mixture.

For assembly

  • oil for frying Vegetable or canola oil recommended.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Peel and slice the apples.
  • In a bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  • Roll out the pie crust and cut it into rounds, approximately 4-5 inches in diameter.

Assembly

  • Place a spoonful of the apple mixture on one half of each round.
  • Fold over the other half of each round and seal the edges with a fork or fingers.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  • Fry each round until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes each.
  • Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  • Serve warm, best enjoyed fresh.

Notes

These pies can be made ahead and frozen before frying. They reheat well in a toaster oven.
